4 Stripe White Belt Test

Passagem de guarda

Abertura de guarda em pé, dominando a manga do mesmo lado e empurrando o joelho

Guard opening standing while dominating the sleeve and pushing the knee with the hand with knee on thigh

  • Put the palm of your right hand at the center of your partner’s stomach and apply pressure (don’t place it too high up or you’ll get triangled).

  • Grip the left sleeve (pocket grip) and stand up, starting on the same side of the sleeve that you have.

  • Lift your torso and posture up. Make sure your knees are facing inward. Make sure your legs aren’t too close together or you’ll get pernas presa’d. Your feet should be facing forward, not outward.

  • Put your right hand on the inside of your partner’s knee. Angle your torso so that your arm straightens out and can apply pressure on the knee.

  • As soon as the guard is open, step back with your left leg (same side as the sleeve you have).

  • Step around (using the same left leg) and staple your partner’s left leg with your right knee.

  • Let go of your partner’s sleeve and scoop their right leg with your left arm.

  • Transition into side control.

Defesa das costas com os ganchos

Defesa do estrangulamento dominando o cotovelo em direção ao estrangulamento

Back choke defense by turning towards the choke

  • Start in a position where your partner has your back and a lapel grip on your gi. You have both hands inside of their forearm to defend the choke.

  • Turn your head towards the elbow of the choke and bridge.

  • Switch the outside defending hand to pull the gi on the side of your partner’s upper arm.

  • Fall to the side of the choke and rotate your hip to bring your leg out of back control.

  • Use your hand to push your partner’s foot off of your leg.

  • Reach back and grab your partner’s gi collar (thumb on the inside) and spin out of their back control onto your knees.

  • Let go of your other grip and pummel your arm to finish in top half guard.

Defesa da esgrima da meia guarda

Abracando a perna

Pummel defense attacked from below by hugging the leg

  • Start in a position where your partner has successfully gotten an underhook from bottom half guard. They are slightly on their side.

  • To defend, scoop their leg on the same side of the underhook and bring your weight onto your opposite hip. Squish them onto their back to negate their attack.

Esgrimando da meia guarda

Pummel from the bottom half guard

  • Start from bottom half guard with your partner having the underhook on the side that you have their leg trapped.

  • On the side that you have their leg trapped, bring your outside wrist to your partner’s neck and use your other palm to create space. The goal is to bring your elbow under their armpit.

  • Use your hip to bridge to the side and create space. Pummel under your partner’s armpit to finish the position.

Finalizações da guarda

Chave de braço armlock

Armbar

  • Using your left arm, secure your partner’s right forearm onto your abdomen. Use a pocket grip with your left hand and scoop the elbow (from the top of the forearm) with your right hand.

  • Be careful not to pull on the arm too much or you’ll cause them to react.

  • Turn the heel of your right foot so that your toes are pointed away from your partner. This is the foot that will keep your partner from posturing up.

  • Place your left foot on your partner’s hip and cut an angle towards the right side.

  • Swing your left leg around and switch both of your grips to the wrist to finish the armbar. Make sure your partner’s thumb is facing up and do not cross your ankles

Estrangulamento cruzado

Cross choke

  • Get a deep grip on your partner’s collar using your right hand. The grip should be palm up with your thumb outside of the gi.

  • Pass your left hand under the grip you already have and get a deep grip on the other side of your partner’s collar. The second grip is also palm up and thumbs out. You should almost be able to touch your knuckles together behind your partner’s neck.

  • Turn your palms up (digging your knuckles into their neck), pull your elbows down, and separate your elbows (all at the same time) to finish the choke

Triangulo

Triangle

  • Open your guard.

  • Put your right foot on your partner’s hip and turn your torso toward your partner’s right shoulder (your left side).

  • Use your left leg to clamp down on your partner’s back, keeping them down.

  • Push your partner’s left arm through your right leg, rotate your torso to the other side, and lift your hips to clamp your leg down on the back of their neck.

  • Lock your triangle.

  • Bring your partner’s arm across and under their chin and nose to asphyxiate them.

  • Push down on your partner’s head.

Omoplata dominando as duas mangas com os pés na viriha

Omaplata from double sleeve grip (that’s not the direct translation)

  • Start with double sleeve grips (pocket grip)

  • Open your guard and hip escape to get both knees to the inside of their elbows.

  • Extend your right leg (making sure that your partner’s elbow is still on the outside of your knee) and rotate your foot so your toes are pointing away from your partner.

  • Push your partner’s hand down to create a lever to help you rotate your body.

  • Bring the bottom of your foot towards your partner’s head and switch your grips. The hand gripping the other arm should go grab the wrist of the sleeve that you’re holding. The hand gripping the sleeve that you’re holding moves to the hem of the pants. It’s okay if your partner posts with their free hand.

  • Rotate all the way through so that your partner is on their belly and your legs are facing their head.

  • Sit up into S-mount position and let go of the hem of the pants.

  • Use the free hand to either grab the belt or put your hand on the floor. The idea it to prevent your partner from rolling forward.

  • Lift your hips up and forward to finish the submission.

Americana

Americana :)

  • Start with your partner’s hand on the floor

  • Grab your partner’s left wrist

  • Open your guard

  • Do a situp and bring your other arm over your partner’s shoulder and under their arm. Grab your own wrist using a c-grip.

  • Lay back down and clamp on your partner’s back with your left leg (same side as the submission).

  • If you can’t finish the submission, cut an angle towards the arm and push their wrist upward to get more of a twisting motion.

Defensa de finalizacoes da guarda

Triangulo (passando a perna por cima da cabeça)

Triangle defense by passing the leg over the head

  • Start in an almost locked-in triangle (assuming your partner is locking it in on your right side)

  • Bring your right elbow out and grab your partner’s pants at the waist.

  • Use your right arm and shoulder to push on the lock of the triangle. Come up onto your knees to apply more force.

  • Post on your right leg and use the arm outside of the triangle to reach across your partner’s chest to grip the opposite side collar. Your grip should be palm down with your thumb on the inside of the gi.

  • Throw your other leg over your partner’s head (in an explosive movement) and lay down as if you were trying to finish an armbar. You can let go of all of your grips.

Omoplata (Indo em direção ao cem quilos do lado oposto)

Omoplata defense heading towards the side control on the opposite side

  • Start from the position where your partner is about to fully rotate through for the omoplata

  • Align your body to be parallel to your partner’s body, with your feet pointed towards their head

  • Keep your torso low and throw the leg closest your partner over their body, ending up in a backward mount

  • Keep your weight on your partner and bring your other leg over.

  • Transition into side control.

Americana (pesando com a mão atrás do joelho)

Americana defense by pressuring the hand to the knee

  • Start from the position where your partner has their Americana grips and is about to fall back.

  • As your partner starts falling back, use their momentum to direct your hand to the inside of your legs (rather than behind your back).

  • Put your upper body weight on your partner, squishing them.

  • Lift the opposite leg to put extra pressure on your partner. The weight should be directed at your partner’s shoulder so he can’t move his arm to pull yours. Your partner should be on their side with your arm stuck between their body and the ground.

Chave de braço arm lock (pesando e voltando para a guarda)

Armbar defense by pressuring and returning back to guard

  • Start in the position where your partner has thrown their leg over head for the armbar.

  • Lift the leg that’s on the same side of the arm trapped in the armbar and stack your partner.

  • The arm being attacked should grab onto your opposite bicep and the other arm should grab your partner’s pants at the kneecap.

  • Pull your partner’s knee down and sneak your head back in to get back into their closed guard.

  • When you sit back down, you’ll be changing your base to lower yourself back down to where your lifted leg ended up.

Estrangulamento cruzado (mão no rosto)

Cross choke defense with hand on face

  • Start in a position where your partner has the first grip of the cross choke and is about to get the second grip.

  • Sandwich your right arm in between your partner’s arms and bring your hand to the right side of your face. You should be putting your hand on the same side as the grip that your partner already has.

  • Place your left hand on the elbow of the arm that already has a grip on you. This prevents your partner from pulling you in.

Finalização da posição de quatro por cima de frente

Relogio

Finishing from all fours on top and in front with the clock choke

  • Put your weight on your partner’s back

  • Rotate on your partner’s back so you’re almost facing perpendicular to them.

  • Using your left hand, grab the hem of your partner’s pants to prevent them from sitting through.

  • With your right hand, grab their lapel to set up the choke. The thumb needs to be under their chin and keep your elbow close to your abdomen to make it tight.

  • Slip your chest over your partner’s head and put your head to the floor.

  • Walk forward until your partner taps. You should be sprawled out and should not be crossing your legs when you walk.

Posição do cem quilos por cima

Domínio das costas da posição norte-sul

Side control north-south position on top dominating the back with the hooks

  • Start from side control.

  • Using your right arm, bring your partner’s lapel out from under their belt and pass it to your left hand.

  • Start spinning over the head to get into north-south, making sure to lock the lapel grip to its fullest.

  • After you’re in north-south, bring the other lapel under your partner’s arm and hold it tightly with your right hand.

  • Keep your hips low and keep the grips near your partner’s armpits to make the position tight.

  • Bring your left knee to your left elbow to trap your partner’s head on your lap.

  • Rock to your side to bring your right leg over and put your first hook in. Then bring your left leg over to put the second hook in and go for a choke.

Defesa da montada

Dominando a manga e upa

Mount defense by dominating the sleeve and bridging

  • Frame on your side with your elbows to make sure your partner doesn’t move too high into the mount.

  • Grab your partner’s right sleeve with your right hand.

  • Grab your partner’s gi at the tricep on the same arm and pull their shoulder down towards you.

  • Block your partner’s foot with your foot on the same side of the lowered shoulder.

  • Bridge and roll to finish in their closed guard. Posture up.

Raspagem (Sweeps)

Basica em pe

Basic standing sweep

  • Start from the position where your partner is standing up from your closed guard without any sleeve grips, but hasn’t postured up yet.

  • Put your hands behind your partner’s heels.

  • Open your guard and drop your hip.

  • Bring your knees together and push on your partner’s chest to sweep them. Don’t put your feet on their hips.

  • Right after you fall, post with one hand and come up to mount.

Tesoura

Scissor sweep

  • Start with a sleeve grip and a collar grip on the same side as the sleeve.

  • Hip escape to face the direction of the sleeve that you have.

  • Fit your right shin and knee into the pit of your partner’s stomach. Fit your foot into their hip.

  • Lift your partner up so that he’s standing on his knees. Be sure not to pull them too close or you’ll get squished and won’t have the leverage to complete the sweep.

  • Scissor your legs to complete the sweep.

  • Use your heel to hook onto your partner’s thigh and pull yourself up into mount.

Quadril no joelho

Hip and knee sweep

  • Start from the position where your partner is standing to open your guard and has one sleeve. They are starting to posture up.

  • With the hand that’s being controlled, grab your partner’s sleeve on the opposite side.

  • Scoop under their ankle with your free arm

  • Throw your hip towards their knee, causing your partner’s knee to turn out and your partner to lose balance. Do NOT open your guard.

  • When your partner falls, open your guard, put your free hand on the ground and come to mount. Make sure you keep the original sleeve grip that you had.

Abraco

Hug sweep

  • Start with your feet between your partner’s legs, laying down.

  • Grab your partner’s right sleeve (pistol grip). You want to control the end of the sleeve to make sure they can’t post.

  • Hip escape to face the sleeve that you have and pass your right leg through your left.

  • As you hip escape, hook your partner’s thigh with your left foot (it needs to be close to their knee)

  • Sit up (posting on your right elbow) and use your left arm to pummel and get the underhook on your partner. Grip their belt.

  • When you’re sitting up, make sure to pass your hand on the inside of your left knee, not the outside.

  • Bring your right arm elbow to your hip to secure your partner’s posting hand to you. Your partner’s hand should be secured in your armpit.

  • Fall sideways onto your right shoulder.

  • Lift your left foot to complete the sweep and immediately land on your left knee when you hit the floor.

  • Post with the hand that had the underhook and sit through into a scarf hold. Transition into side control.

Pernas presas

Trapped legs sweep

  • Start from the position where your partner is standing up to open your guard and has one sleeve. They are starting to posture up.

  • You can only apply this technique if your partner’s base is relatively narrow. If their base is wide, you won’t be able to trap the legs.

  • Grab both of your partner’s sleeves.

  • Open your guard to drop your hips and then close your guard again on your partner’s knees.

  • Lift your partner by lifting your feet (like you’re kicking their butt). At the same time, cross their arms.

  • Bring them to one side for the sweep and come up into mount.

Laco

DLR sweep (the app subtitles it as DLR)

  • Start from a position where your partner is standing up to open your guard and has one sleeve.

  • Grip your partner’s sleeve using the same hand that they’re grabbing your sleeve on.

  • Hold the hem of their pants with your other hand (pocket grip).

  • Open your guard and drop your hip into a DLR guard (push your partner’s sleeve side leg backwards and fit your foot onto their other leg). It’s important that you don’t let go of either grip that you have.

  • Sit up, pull your partner’s far side sleeve, and bring them forward.

  • As your partner falls, keep both of your grips and bring your leg to their knee so you can complete the guard pass.

Defesa da raspagem

Basica em pe

Defending the basic sweep by dominating the collars

  • Start in a position where your partner is pushing their knees onto your stomach for the basica em pe.

  • Hold both sides of their collar and turn your knees inward to defend.
